Starfield console commands can be used to manipulate Bethesda's big space RPG in all kinds of fun and wonky ways. Use cheats to turn on god mode, walk through walls, instantly gain levels for your character, increase your carrying capacity, or give yourself free money to buy every spaceship in the galaxy. Or try spawning any item in the game, changing a companion's affinity toward you, tweaking the gravity wherever you are just for fun, and just generally getting up to Starfield hijinks.

More good news: If you've played a Bethesda RPG like Skyrim or Fallout 4 and used console commands, you have a head start. Many of Starfield's console commands are identical and work exactly the same way.
Important note: Using console commands can sometimes cause glitches, crashes, and other problems, so please save your game before experimenting with them. They also disable achievements, although you can get around that with the best Starfield mods for more.
How to use Starfield console commands
To use the console in Starfield, press the tilde (~) key. The game will pause and the console will open on the lower half of the screen. You'll get a warning that using console commands will disable achievements, and you'll need to tap tilde again to close the console, then click OK or press E to remove the warning. The warning only happens the first time you open the console in a session, and you won't see it again until you restart the game.
Tap tilde again to reopen the console and you'll be able to enter the codes below. Press the enter key after typing each code, and press tilde to close the console again when you're done.
Most useful console commands
- tgm — Enable god mode
- tcl — Turn on no clip mode
- tm — Toggle UI
- tfc — Enable free cam
- kah — Kill all hostile enemies nearby
- time [#] — the specified number of hours
- tdetect — Prevent enemies from detecting you in stealth
- player.additem f [#] — Add any number of credits to your inventory
- player.additem a [#] — Add any number of digipicks to your inventory
- player.additem [item ID] [#] — Add any item to your inventory (see sections below for item IDs)
- PlaceAtMe [item ID] [#] — Place any number of an item at your feet.
- player.setav carryweight 999999 — Set your max carry weight to the highest value
- showlooksmenu player 1 — Open the character creator
- player.addperk [perk ID] — Add a skill or perk (see sections below for IDs)

- If you see [#], replace it with a number, which usually represents a quantity or amount. For instance, player.additem f 25 adds 25 lockpicks.
- Some commands require special IDs; more on that in the sections below.
- Some commands require you to "target" something in the world by clicking on it while the console is open.

To test your PC's physics processing chops—such as by dropping 10,000 milk cartons on a skyscraper—use the PlaceAtMe [item ID] [#] command, which will place the specified item in the specified quantity in a grid where you're standing. I've used milk cartons as the example, but you can use anything. See the sections below for more item IDs.
Note: You might crash the game playing with this one!
You can also add items to your inventory using player.additem [item ID] [#] and then drop them, but you have to manually drop them one at a time if you want to cover the floor, because they stack if you drop them all at once. If you do drop them one at a time, they pleasingly arrange themselves in a summoning circle:

If you want to have a little adventure out in space properly, use the above commands while flying around between planets. to enter both of these commands back-to-back before closing your command console with ~ or you'll be freefalling through the stars.
There isn't much to do outside your space ship—you don't collide with asteroids or anything else—but it's neat to get out there for some photos.
Pay off bounties
Use player.paycrimegold 0 0 [faction ID] to pay off a bounty with a particular faction. Note that the bounty will be paid out of the credits in your inventory, this isn't a free solution, just a fast one. Though while you've got the console open, maybe just give yourself free credits.
The faction IDs are proving slightly hard to find (there are a lot of different, interestingly-named factions in Starfield's backend, so here are just a few that seem correct:

Companion affinity
If you open the console with a companion in view, you can click on them to set them as the target for these commands, which tell you their affinity level and let you set it to what you want. These aren't perfectly straightforward, as redditor Objective_Tailor607 has discovered through experimentation.

There are more Starfield console commands, but most of them have debugging purposes that aren't especially useful for the average player (like checking whether or not a door is locked). We'll keep adding to this list as we discover useful ones. Adding skills
Use the player.addperk [id] console command to add one level to a skill. Use player.removeperk [id] to remove the skill entirely. The skill IDs are:

Adding weapon mods
To manually mod a weapon, first drop it on the ground, then open the console and click on the weapon to get its reference ID. You might have to crouch down and click around a bit to find get it to work.
Use the command [weapon reference ID].amod [mod ID] to add a mod, referencing the mod IDs below. The same command with "rmod" will remove a mod.

Adding armor mods
Modding armor is just like modding weapons. First, drop the armor on the ground. Open the console and click on the armor to get its reference ID. It can be tricky to find the right place to click.
Use the command [weapon reference ID].amod [mod ID] to add a mod, referencing the mod IDs below. The same command with "rmod" will remove a mod. These are kind of finicky, and don't always want to work for me.

How to find item IDs
If you can't find an ID you want on this page, you can use the help console command to look up ID codes for items and other things you may want to reference. It works like this:
- Open the console with the tilde (~) key
- Type "help" followed by an item name, or part of an item name
- For example, if you want to find the item code for .43 ultramag ammo, type "help ultramag"
- The console will return any and all codes related to the word ultramag
- Look for the line reading "AMMO: (002B5599) .43 Ultramag"
- 002B5599 is the item ID for ultramag ammo
- Typing "player.additem 002B5599 100" (no quotes) will add 100 rounds of .43 ultramag ammo to your inventory
You can refine your search by adding a number after the search term. Add a 1 to search for console commands, and a 4 to search for variables like item IDs. For example, the command help player 1 will return console commands which contain "player" and the command help computer 1 will return variables that contain "computer," such the IDs of all the computer terminals that appear in the game.
You can also add a four letter code after the number to refine your search even further by specifying a variable category. Food items are all labeled ALCH, for instance. So the command help meat 4 ALCH will only list variables which contain "meat" and are food items.
